Yesterday we found out about the latest installment in the Guitar Hero franchise, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.
No, its not Guitar Hero 4. No, its not Guitar Hero: Rock the 90s.
Its Guitar Hero: Aerosmith edition, meaning it only features one
particular band.
The announcement angered many people and made some change their
pants, but at the end of the day, is it a good idea? I’m not talking
about an Aerosmith version of the game, but the idea of one band having
its own version of Guitar Hero.
Whenever we find out about a new GH, the first questions to pop in
are “Whats the track listing?, Which bands are in?” but what if it was
only one band? I came up with two possibilities, lets just brand them A
and B.
A) You love the band and will buy the game the day it comes out so
you can worship and jam out to a large portion of their songs. Huge
Success.
B) You hate/don’t give a damn about the band and this game does nothing to change your life. Epic Fail.
This game can be targeted towards an entirely different audience.
Audience A (the current audience) looks forward to the “variety pack”
edition of Guitar Hero. They just love music and this is their fix. But
Audience B might just like to play songs from one particular band.
When “One” by Metallica was announced for GHIII, many people
wondered, why not Enter Sandman? Fade to Black? well if a Metallica
edition came out, that problem would be solved!
So at the end of the day, is this really a bad idea? Honestly, think
about it. As long as the game has at least 30 tracks, the price is
justifiable. Keep in mind that every downloadable song goes for about
$2 bucks a pop. 2 x 30? Exactly. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still not sold
100% on the idea, but it might be the beginning of a whole new deal for
Activision.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
It will not be an epic fail and I'll tell you why. First, it's Guitar Hero. Anything they make just sells. Period. Second, there are more than enough Aerosmith fans out there that would love to get their hands on a copy of this edition just to rock out with Aerosmith on GH. So just wait and see when it comes out and you'll see that this will be a great release before GH4 comes out in the fall.
Maybe it will and as Kali mentioned in his post, fans and as well as GH consumers will buy these titles.
Would be the best GH release to date. I would love to see an exclusive GH Metallica edition.
I def. think it sells...and I think you will see this as the new cd of sorts in a way, for the music industry. From these statements it sounds as if it is only the start. Who better then with a band that has rocked for many years...but yes, GH Metallica edition would be awsome!
"Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry talked to USA Today's Mike Snider about the plans for their new Guitar Hero: Aerosmith game.
"Q: Can you tell me how this video game came about?
Joe Perry: I walked through the den where we have the video games usually set up and I noticed the controller had an oddly familiar shape and I heard some rockin' music and I said, "What's going on? What is this?" (His youngest son) Roman explained it to me and I played it a little bit and said, 'This is fantastic. Do they have any AEROSMITH songs on it?' And the first game didn't. …I called my manager and said, "This is fantastic. How come we're not involved in this?" And ever since then, I've been pushing to be as involved in the game and the movement as well."

Key word in this statement:The movement
I think Activision is milking the franchise. Don't get me wrong, I think Aerosmith is great. Especially before Tyler thrashed his voice. But it's becoming just another Tony Hawk, which in time they'll ruin. I praise Harmonix for parting ways with Activision to pursue Rock Band -- something Activision had no interest in doing. Now you have all this legality mumbo jumbo between Harmonix and Activision regarding something as stupid as compatibility issues, with Activision blocking a patch made by Harmonix to correct the issue. Harmonix virtually jump started the genre and Activision should show a little more respect. I've lost much respect for Activision over the years. Especially during the Harmonix ordeal. It would seem Activision is in it for the money and to regurgitate the same crap, while Harmonix is in it for the music and to evolve their musical vision.
